Terark: A Visual Identity Design that Embodies the Spirit of Future Technology

Creating a New World through Design

Exploring various approaches and conducting user research are great ways of inspiration. Visually, an agreement with the client was made, which was simple and modern. The final design idea was enlightened by the movie The Matrix. Therefore, the brand identity should convey a combined feeling of sense of wonder and future technology, which exactly shows the spirit of Terark - creating a new world.

Terark, a tech company providing big data processing services, sought to stand out from its competitors and showcase its unique business offerings through a visually striking visual identity design. After several iterations, the design concept was narrowed down to a dot matrix with multiple gradient colors. The smoothly connected dots form the shape of a T, representing the first letter of the company name. This design not only captures the essence of Terark's business but also offers multiple gradient shaders to customers, showcasing the potential for expanded services and exceeding expectations.

To bring this design to life, a custom font was created specifically for Terark's visual identity. Additionally, multiple gradient shaders were developed, providing versatility and enhancing the design's use cases. Furthermore, a dot pattern was included, allowing customers to utilize it as a background in various print materials and other applications.

The design was implemented across various mediums, including brochures, yearbooks, name cards, and water bottles. Each design unit was created in different sizes and tailored to suit the specific surface it would be applied to.

Throughout the design process, brainstorming played a crucial role in generating multiple ideas. However, merging and evaluating these ideas proved challenging, as the goal was to create a design that stood out in a crowded market. Client feedback was invaluable, as it provided insights into the specific industry and ensured the final delivery met their expectations.

The project spanned three months, with the main design work taking place in San Francisco. Qualitative research played a significant role in shaping the design, with several rounds of user interviews and feedback collection conducted. The aim was to create a design that would impress future customers of Terark, and reaching out to potential customers helped gain valuable insights.

One of the major challenges faced was designing a visual identity that appeared simple and modern while still being distinctive among competitors. Overcoming this challenge required innovative thinking and a deep understanding of the industry. The designer's commitment to qualitative research and continuous iteration resulted in a final design that was both astonishing and brilliant.

The exceptional design of Terark's visual identity was recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The design's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world, providing fulfillment and positive feelings.
